Invention Reference

Unlike all of the other science and industry options, Invention involves chance!
There are often high rates of failure, and if an invention is successful the Tech 2 BPC produced has bad material efficiency (normally ME=PE=-4) and is a very limited run blueprint; so it often costs more in time and ISK to produce something through invention than can be made from it.

Invention minimum requirements:

1* Specific Data Interface (ISK: 5M-75M and/or 50M-150M for ship DI)
1* BPC of Tech 1 version of Item to invent.
N* Datacore #1 (ISK: 100K-1M/core, 2 to 16+ cores required, 32 cores for ship inventions are common)
N* Datacore #2 (ISK: 100K-1M/core, 2 to 16+ cores required, 32 cores for ship inventions are common)

Skills required:
1* {Race} Encryption Methods (ISK: 5M to 150M)
2* R&D skills that are same as the Datacores (ISK: 300K-50M for a research skillbook)


Optional components:
1* Tech 1 version of Item - Meta 1 gives a 1.1x mod which then increases by 0.05x per meta level (Average ISK: 100K to 15M for modules)
1* Decryptor modifies sucess by 0.6x to 1.8x (ISK: 1M to 40M)


Invention jobs use lab slots, not factory slots. The lab location alters the time and cost of an invention research job:

Upon completion, delivering the job generates a message notifying you of the outcome.
Invention destroys all the components except the data interface regardless of result.
Successful inventions will produce a limited run tech 2 item BPC.


Amarr module invention plan - example:
Initial Investment: ~25M ISK (Research Skills (1M & 1M), Occult DI, Amarr Encryption Methods)

Invent Power Diagnostic System: 10.3M ISK per attempt
1* PDS I BPC ME=35 PE=10 300 run (Time to research and copy, costs if not done in Corp POS)
2* Datacore - High Energy Physics (2* 400K)
2* Datacore - Quantum Physics (2* 500K)
1* Beta Reactor Control: Diagnostic System I (Meta 4 best named: ~4.5M)
1* Classic Doctrine (~7M)

Success normally results in a Power Diagnostic System II BPC 10-run ME=-4 PE=-4, although inthe above example the decryptor would modify the BPC to a 11-run ME=-2 PE=+1.

For a better chance of success and up to 4 extra runs, War Strategon would be the choice, but with current market value at 20+M each failure becomes very expensive.

Cryptic Data Interface
Designed for use with Minmatar technology, this portable interface permits its user to course through the electronic stream of item schematics, hunting down the stray bits of data necessary for his grand creation. Only one data interface is required for invention, and it can be re-used as often as needed.

Esoteric Data Interface
Designed for use with Caldari technology, this portable interface permits its user to course through the electronic stream of item schematics, hunting down the stray bits of data necessary for his grand creation. Only one data interface is required for invention, and it can be re-used as often as needed.

Incognito Data Interface
Designed for use with Gallente technology, this portable interface permits its user to course through the electronic stream of item schematics, hunting down the stray bits of data necessary for his grand creation. Only one data interface is required for invention, and it can be re-used as often as needed.

Occult Data Interface
Designed for use with Amarr technology, this portable interface permits its user to course through the electronic stream of item schematics, hunting down the stray bits of data necessary for his grand creation. Only one data interface is required for invention, and it can be re-used as often as needed.

Datacores:

Two research skills are required to manufacture tech 2 versions of an item, these skills are therefore also needed for inventing it.
Datacores of these skills are required for invention; your R&D Research agent can provide datacores in exchange for research points from your field of study.

All NPC corporations have agents, not all of them have R&D divisions.

Kudfa Qeritan is a Level 3 Quality +4 agent in Carthum Conglomerate R&D department in Asrios VII - Carthum Conglomerate Factory.
The agent can be selected to work in one of the following research fields up to the maximum level shown:

If you select to research Amarrian Starship Engineering, Research Points (RP) generated:

RP/day = (Agent skill level + player skill level)^2 x [(Agent's effective quality/100)+1]

RP/day weapon-related research fields * 2

You would then be able to exchange an amount of your RP's for a number of Datacore - Amarrian Starship Engineering.

Improving success rate:

Base chance of success is:
20% for battlecruisers, battleships, Hulk
25% for cruisers, industrials, Mackinaw
30% for frigates, destroyers, Skiff, freighters
40% for all other inventables - drones, modules, rigs, etc.

2. Science Datacore 1 Research skill-level: (1+DC-Sci1.lv/10) = 1.01 -> 1.05

3. Science Datacore 2 Research skill-level: (1+DC-Sci2.lv/10) = 1.01 -> 1.05

4. Tech1 Template - effect increases as better named modules are used ie. metalevel is directly proportional to modifier: (1+(Meta.lv*5+5)/10) = 1.1 -> 1.25

5. Decryptor's Probability Multiplier: Decryptor_PM = 0.6 -> 1.8

Maxed Skills, no template, no decryptor: 1.05 * 1.05 * 1.05=> 15.76%

Average Skills, M4 template, Decryptor with PM=1.2: 1.04 * 1.03 * 1.03 * 1.25 * 1.2 => 65.5%

Results show that you should use the best item and best decryptor available.
